Treetopia Ice Cream Social – National Ice Cream Month Themed Holiday Trees

I know, I know…a Christmas tree in July?!

In case you didn’t already know, July is National Ice Cream Month! To celebrate I’ve teamed up with Treetopia (who believe their trees don’t have to be limited to one holiday!) and five other bloggers to bring you sugary sweet ice cream themed holiday tree ideas.

What’s even sweeter? Treetopia is giving you the chance to win special treats through their social media giveaway, and brand ambassador, Jen Perkins’ Facebook live contest!

Ready for my ice cream themed creation?

Tada!

I started with a pink lighted tree from Treetopia, of course, and decorated it with DIY ice cream ornaments and ice cream string lights.

I used tissue paper to create pastel scoops and placed them in real sugar cones and cute ice cream cups.

Then I used colorful mini marshmallows and candies to decorate them!For snow cones I used tissue paper and party hats!

For extra sweetness I used twine and taffy to make little filler ornaments.

By the way, the pastel pink tree gets even pinker once you turn on the pink lights!

Can’t forget the sprinkles! I filled Treetopia’s iridescent ornaments with rainbow sprinkles! To top it all off I used the rest of my tissue paper and a party hat to make a giant ice cream cone.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree! 2016

Ok, real talk, I honestly feel like this month has gone by really quickly. TOO quickly. The holidays are almost over and it makes me sad! I want more time!

Anyway, if you know me at all you know I take my Christmas trees very seriously. Every year we get natural tree and usually have it flocked in white, but for some reason this year was particularly difficult. It took visiting five different tree lots to find the perfect one, but we finally found *the one* and I love it. When you know you just know. You know?

Without further ado, here is this year’s tree!

It’s chockablock full of candy colored ornaments, gold garland, tons of tinsel, and my trusty DIY tree skirt.

It’s the perfect tree to display my vintage ornament collection. I especially love vintage Shiny Brites and threaded bulbs. Speaking of, The Christopher Radko Company has resurrected the Shiny Brite brand and has been producing ornaments based on classic Shiny Brite designs. I got some this year to fill out the tree and they’re gorgeous!

I also got a finial from them to top it all off.

I want to keep it up all year round!

DIY: Felted Christmas Tree Tutorial

While thumbing through the millions of catalogues that flood my mailbox this time of year, I noticed a few craftsy decorations being sold for upwards $100 and thought “Whaaaat? These are totally easy DIYs.” These felt Christmas trees are among them. Similar styles are being sold for 10 times what you can spend to make your own and who doesn’t love a Christmas craft? Grab some cookies, turn on a Hallmark movie, and get your glue gun ready. Here’s how you do it.

It’s simple. You’ll need cardboard cones, 1 yd. heavy duty felt, and felt ball thingies (optional: twine or ribbon for garland). Oh and scissors and glue of course.

Cut your felt into oval leaf shapes. I cut mine roughly 2″ x 1″. If you stack a few rectangle pieces and then cut it saves you some time and thumb cramps. Now start glueing!

Glue them on in rows and layer your way up.

Go back through and fill in any empty spots with more leaves. You don’t have to be perfect. In fact the more random, the better!

Decorate them with different colors and sizes of felt balls, buttons, ribbon, twine — whatever you want! Now you’ll have your very own felt trees for a fraction of the price you’ll find them in trendy catalogues and stores. Cute right?
